----------------------------------------------- [Atlus History] --------------------------------------------------
Eons ago, a war the likes of which had never been seen before raged between the two kingdoms on The Eastern Continent, Galleran and Arcadia; dubbed "The Crimson War". Originally fought over control of the majority of the lands, sight was lost of this and it became nothing more than a bitter rivalry between the two sides. As the years moved on, there seemed to be no end in sight to the war that had accounted for thousands of deaths across both lands.
With the war at its peak, Avalon, The Goddess of Hate, surfaced from the demonic shadows of her origin, drawn forth by the strife, death and conflict. She began to decimate the lands as she saw fit with her destructive magical abilities, taking lives that amounted to twice of what was accounted for during "The Crimson War". Avalon possessed powers that were far and beyond that of the typical sorceress found on Atlus. With her appearance also came the arrival of beasts never seen in the Eastern Lands in order to cause havoc where Avalon could not.
Both, the Lords of Galleran and Arcadia decided to put their differences aside for the time being so that they could focus on the bigger picture, for if they didn't, there would be no lands or subjects to speak of.
Try as they may, their armies could not match up to her destructive powers as those who opposed her were instantly slaughtered. The Eastern continent on Atlus, once a very bright colorful land that was full of life…was now nothing more than a dark shadow of its former self.
It is said then that as if from nowhere, a sorceress named Leighanna Aareon appeared. Said to have been residing with in the Temple of Arcadia since the day of her birth, this daughter of the church became a symbol of hope for all those on the Eastern Continent. For weeks she traveled across the lands doing away with Avalon's minions one after the other, helping the wounded as she went along. Her legend grew stronger with each passing day.
Paranoid that she would soon arrive in her presence, Avalon summoned hell's army itself to do away with her. It would soon prove that they themselves were no match for Leighanna and those who banded along side her. With the assistance of "The Fates" themselves, they prevailed in ridding the world of Avalon's presence once and for all...but not without paying the ultimate sacrifice. In defeating her, it is said that Leighanna had no choice but to cast the ultimate white magic spell, the "Stream of Fate" that is said to be fueled by the Fate's themselves. Doing so in a weakened condition, it not only killed Avalon, but Leighanna herself as she was not able to withstand the sudden surge of power to her body.
Upon the defeat of Avalon, the kingdoms on the eastern continent were quick to reach a decision that would soon change history as they knew it. Even though it was the source of their salvation, magic was also what almost brought the planets existence to and end due to it's misusage in the hands of Avalon.
It became a banished force on the face of the Eastern Continent; for the Goddess of Hate was put to rest once and for all and that they had nothing to fear any longer. The ruling even went as far as having any and all sorceresses put to an "honorable death" an attempt to rid the planet of its knowledge quickly.
As time passed, the practice of magic casting was soon forgotten.
Several decades ago, the beasts of days gone by had slowly begun to reappear in large numbers in select locations over the Eastern Continent. People thought of this as a horrible omen of things to come as they began to wreak havoc all over some of the smaller towns much like during the times of Avalon's presence.
Thinking that her revival might soon be at hand, those in power have begun to make an effort to locate any and all scriptures that might still exist in various locations over the planet that might help the resurrect the lost art of spell casting in order to combat the Goddess.
For a good period of time, the partial revival of the old magic system remained closely guarded secret amongst the sorcerers of the two kingdoms before it was discovered that word had somehow leaked. Rouges had stolen what few scriptures existed and sold it amongst the black market where it eventually became public knowledge.
All "official" sorceresses in existence are under the strict command of either the Galleran or Arcadian Lords and are the only ones permitted to use magic. Anyone discovered using magic that is not a sworn member of either Kingdoms Royal Guard is branded as a "Magic Outlaw" and punished by death.
According to Eastern law, if used by the wrong person, magic could potentially bring about the worlds end… much like it did once already.
